In 1963, my parents purchased a lot on Chatham Lane in York Woods for a price that is less than a high-end refrigerator! My parents also kept and saved all of the Village of Oak Brook documentation and York Woods and Village of Oak Brook marketing materials from their purchase. The image above is from the York Woods marketing brochure from the mid 1960’s.
York Woods and Ginger Creek were the very first subdivisions to be developed in Oak Brook.
York Woods was described in this brochure as seen below – see what is still the same as time has gone on!
“York Woods, a peaceful and pastoral space of woodland, waters and green, rolling meadow, presents the discerning family with an ultimate in country-side living _ with all of the conveniences of the city. Nestled in the quiet foliage of beautiful Oak Brook, York Woods is only 29 minutes drive from Chicago (Congress Expressway), 15 minutes from O’Hare Airport, (Tr-State Tollway) and 5 minutes from commuter rail transportation at the Burlington depot in Hinsdale.”
“Residents of York Woods have much more than beauty and convenience at their disposal. Located adjacent to Oak Brook’s unique sports and forest preserve, the country-side offers a wide variety of outdoor events year round, including archery, horseback riding, polo, and many others. York Golf course, one of three in the Village, is just across the road.
A limited number of fully protected and improved homesites have been fashioned from the unusually tranquil setting. Oak Brook proudly invites you to visit and see the ultimate in country-side living for you and your family.”
Today, in 2025, York Woods continues to be a coveted Oak Brook location and is a place that I have enjoyed living in!
